the small print on my RX7 sun visor and the manual don't state: "do not put engine in plane" so what is the basis for this lawsuit?

Just FYI, FWIW.  This may have already circulated, but I just noticed it.

and yes, even though I am a lawyer...or play one in real life.....I still have trouble commenting on Stooopid and things that can really piss me off. <g>

Hi everyone,
I have just one little bit of information about auto conversions.
This only concerns Mazda. They are threatening law suits against
anyone using a Mazda engine for aircraft purposes. I'm assuming they
are going after the folks that are trying to make a business of
selling engines or redrives and not the DIY guy. I am involved with a
project with one of these companies and it is a very real threat. It
makes me wonder if Subaru will be next. It would be hard to spend
resources to make an auto conversion knowing the manufacturer may
shut you down. They have very deep pockets and could break you before
it ever went to court. This really sucks as it will hurt us all.

I'm no lawyer, but I don't see how a manufacturer can legally prevent an

individual from taking one of their engines and using it for their own
purposes, regardless how dangerous it may be.

However, a person selling the engines to the public for the use of
aircraft
engines is different from individuals converting them themselves.
