Does anyone have a design for slip joints for
rotary exhaust pipes? I understand there is more expansion with the 321
stainless compared to other steel. Is there a rule of thumb for locating
them? Thanks again

Here is a design that works well on race cars. The springs came from a
Doman box at NAPA. Very stiff.
Run a slightly loose double strand of safety wire through the same holes as
the springs, and through the center of the spring, in case it breaks it cannot
drop a loose piece into a bad spot, and the joint still cannot open. This is
easy to build and allows plenty of movement for the Rotary exhaust system.
Unless the is a major restriction in the exhaust system, any leak, will be air
entering the joint. Most of the system will be below ambient air pressure.
