Tracy,
That is EXACTLY what is was. The contrast
control knob had not been hooked up yet as it got late much faster than I wanted
it to. So, I went out there after work today and installed the knob,
twisted it and up came little numbers. I can't tell ya how beautiful it
was.
The manual speaks of a LCD backlight dimmer
switch , but I don't have it. It is just a common switch or is
something special? If special, I will want to get one from ya when you
return from you trip. If not, can you tell me what to look for locally
please.
Now to start trying to figure stuff out...what is
working and what is not quite working. The engine seems to start easy one
time and then not the next (maybe flodding?). Also, when it is running,
the rpm seems to be jumping all over the place. Mostly in the 3000 rpm
range...at least that is what I am shooting for, for now, but it will jump up to
6000, then 8000 back to the 3000 range in a very inconsistant manner. When
I add throttle it goes up, but still seems eratic. I am getting
ready to read the manuals again now that the pieces are starting to fit together
and see if the mist will clear a bit.
Man, without anything but a straight pipe (actually
a turbo exhaust w/ waistgate opening and the tubo mount flange blocked off with
a metal plate) this engine is LOUD. It does make is sound very, very
powerful though <g>.
Again, thanks Tracy and all the rest of
y'all. Your continued input is very reassuring.
All the best,
Chris

Killing the engine [FlyRotary] ECU/EM upgraded...a couple of questions
Chris,
My guess is that if you do have power, the EM2 either has the contrast
control turned up too high or is mis-wired. First twist the
contrast control to both ends of travel and watch the display. If still
no joy, check wiring. You do have the contrast control installed,
right? Only the LCD version uses this control and yours is an
LCD. Normally the contrast control will be turned fully CCW unless the
temperature is really hot or really cold.
PS: Don't be bashful about using the mixture control on the
EC2. Turning it is the fastest way to get an education on how the engine
reacts to mixture changes. Every pilot NEEDS this education on an
experimental engine. If it runs better after you turn the pumps off,
it's telling you what you thought : (TOO RICH).
