Thanx for the answers.

I never doubted Tracy's product, I just want to understand its operation.

Numbers (sold and flying) speak for itself.

My question was more to the degree of automation the EC2 provides:

Is it necessary to manually (constantly) re-tune mixture or is this automatic, once the base maps are set? Single Lever - "no need to think about" - operation?

I think the key word is “necessary”.  Once the correction tables (maps) are set; and you set them for mid O2 sensor reading and 12:00 o’clock on the mixture knob; you can fly any part of your regime without doing anything, and you will be OK (except for when the engine is cold).  But for max power on takeoff and climb you will likely want to run more rich (1:00 – 2:00 o’clock on mixture knob), and for lean cruise you will want to lean (maybe 10:00 -11:00 o’clock, and mixture monitor off the bottom of the scale).  So, yes; you will probably want to still think about the mixture now and then.

I offer these things based on my system, and somewhat limited flight experience; not as the consummate expert.  However, it could be that I have done more tuning of the engine than anyone because of the issues I had with the spontaneous changes of settings.J
