Subject: [FlyRotary] I welded!!!
My first practice
session was short, thankfully, because I got the nastiest "sunburn" you can
imagine. Lesson one, when they say don't have any uncovered skin in
the vicinity of the TIG arc, they aren't kidding. Despite the sunburn,
I managed to stick a few pieces of steel together.
Cheers,
Rusty (but will it work
on cast aluminum)
Rusty,
SPF sunblock 45 lotion will save your skin on
those hot days when a long sleeved shirt is out of the question.
For aluminum, use a pure tungsten electrode
(green stripe) that is sized for the increased amperage needed. Use a larger
diameter ceramic cup and increase argon flow. What machine and torch are you
using?
A 400 degree preheat will help on large pieces or
if you're down on amperage.
