Dwayne,
Answer #1 Mistral is certifing the rotary and is providing a 3 rotor version rated at 300 hp normally aspirated. This is with few if any port mods, and Al Gisen(sic) has a 20B in his velocity that dynoed at 279 with a homemade intake and a fairly restrictive exhaust. Check out www.mistralengines.com they have beautiful components and will sell some individually to experimentals.

Answer #2 More power, muffles the exhaust (only a little)/ All the disadvantages of any turbo application plumbing, heat, detonation, and the need to fit another heat exchanger (intercooler) into your airplane.

Answer #3 Many 20B components are interchangeable with 13B components. I am not totally up on the Rensis, but I believe they changed the o-rings into the side plates again? if so you could use the rotors but few of the other components. (Rotors would likely require an involved re-balance)

The truly unique parts of the 20B are, the excentric shaft, and the intermediate housing. 13B rotor housings will work as will most of the 13B rotors.

Bill Jepson (I have a 20B for my RV-10)

Subject: [FlyRotary] Newby 20B questions

Greetings all,

First time posting here so I’ve got a couple of newby questions.

1)       Does anyone know what HP to expect out of a 20B?
2)       Can someone explain the advantages / disadvantages to adding turbo to a 20B?
3)       Can a 3 rotor engine be built using Renesis components?

Feel free to answer any and all and thanks very much for your time!

Dwayne
