rusty - my -6A has a tendency to pull to the left, some alignment problems I guess.  I replace the right pad on a yearly basis and will replace the rotor next year.  new pads help immensely.  be aware that when the pads wear down to the rivets that you can actually blow the puck out of the cylinder, which, on a plane like mine which steers only with its brakes, can lead to a disaster.  I have had to shim new brake pads with a piece of .025 in order to eliminate the initial drag and allow the rotor to turn.  apparently some of the pads are a bit thicker than spec.

Thanks for the comments Kevin.  I think Guinea pig is probably closer than professor though :-)

please note that my -6A uses a large loop from the gear leg to the caliper, which reduces the fatigue on this joint.  It has worked fine for 1000 hrs.  Avoid a single tight bend, these don't take the flexing without breaking.

The RV-8 had a large loop also, and since I couldn't find a drawing that showed how the RV-3 was supposed to be (the drawings are there, I just didn't initially see them), I made it like the RV-8 was.  The inspector didn't like the loops, and said that they would vibrate, and break.  Since I knew that my RV-8 was done the same way, I didn't worry about it.  I don't think the loop would have been a problem, if the brakes didn't chatter.  Anyway, these pads will get replaced, and hopefully, that will be the end of the chattering problem.  Heck, these pads are so old that they might even be asbestos.

Cheers,
Rusty
