Burly,
I have a design that Bill Jepson and I have worked on, it's still getting welded up here in Australia. It deals with the exhaust pulses, has internal and external cooling. The external cooling acts as a radiant shield as well - it has no perpendicular walls anywhere!
I will pass on the drawings to you if you were keen to trial the design. This would have to be tested in the US for the local boys anyway.
The design itself has no bends however individual requirements may need some.
One of my mates was working at the loacal airfield in exhausts as well as other specialities, but he moved on. They are however expensive, but he tells me they make all the diferent shapes from 321SS sheet metal. Given this information you should be able to have all the parts made in the shop- perhaps at cost!?.
Anyhow let me know if your interested, the design is innovative and if this doen't work, nothing will!!
Design is to remain commercial in confidence!

Hey with the new job perhaps you can institute a new line of
aircraft mufflers for the rotary crowd {:>).
Somebody must design one first. Here they use only 321 SS but everything is 0.049 wall. The bends are very expensive. Even they are paying $30-40 for ech bend. The company just bought a new mandrel bender, but is not ready yet. For my next exhaust I have to buy my bends from Burns, unless there is a better place?
