12 volt lamp and the R lead to the bus thru the alternator switch that
was already on the panel.  The indicator light works, but the
alternator charges as soon as the engine starts whether I close the
alternator switch or not.  I believe the R terminal is internally
excited when the switch is open.  I haven't checked to see whether or
not closing the switch causes the voltage to increase slightly.

which terminal is the field? There are only two terminals in T
configuration. Does anybody have the information which one is which?
