Subject: [FlyRotary] Re: I-10 bridges in
Florida (off to[ic)
My family and I are leaving Friday afternoon for Orlando (Florida).
We will be hitting I-10 at Mobile. My question for Rusty (and anyone
else who might know) is: Are the I-10 bridges east of Mobile still one
lane or is traffic back to normal?
Hi
Ken,
The new
I-10 bridge over Escambia Bay in Pensacola is not going to be finished for
years... The eastbound span is still one lane, with much of it being
temporary steel grating sections. The westbound span has both
lanes open, but with a low speed limit. You can get more info on
the bridge construction here, including live cameras on both
ends:
I-10
through all of Pensacola is under construction as well, due to other projects
that were ongoing before the storms. I-110 in Pensacola is also
screwed. It's a mess, but not nearly as bad as it could be.
Heading
west is almost never a significant delay. Heading east can be good or
bad, and it seems totally random from what I can tell. Sometimes you
just sail through, and sometimes you waste 20-30 minutes. Still, it's
probably just as fast, or faster than trying to bypass I-10 east. BTW,
when heading east, the left lane is the one that ends before the bridge.
This is
week 4 in Cleveland for me, with another week to go, so I haven't seen the
bridge in person recently. Sure would like to though. There was an
unexplained light outside today, which I seem to recall being
"sunshine". None of the locals recognized it, and it didn't last
long anyway :-)

downtime)
