The current version of the EC2 software includes 2 diagnostic tools, one for testing coils and the other for testing injectors.   Obviously it also tests the associated wiring.
 
 These also tests that the EC2 is basically on-line and functioning but not a complete diagnostic.  Only spinning the engine (or the crank angle sensor by itself) and watching for spark at the plugs will test the sensor inputs in the field. 
 
More diagnostics are planned for the future as I have time.

Tracy included in the newer models of the EC2 a feature that you can 
trigger the coils and get the plugs firing without the engine turning.
Just press the red button on the EC2 panel and watch your spark plugs 
fire. No need to crank the whole engine for that.
Tracy can explain it better.
