Now, the question comes down to what kind of damage
might there be besides the pretty coloring. If not warped in anyway, after
checking with straight edge and feeler gauge all around, facing almost every
direction, and no cracking or spalliation, microscopic examination might tell
that, probably the only question left would be hardness, what is required, what
is left (or, maybe added <g>.) Since I always think these things need to
be run in on the ground first, I would probably try it just to see; but, then
again, what would an end plate or two cost since it looks like you need a whole
engine to start with. That way you have an extra crank and some obviously
heat treated end housings for spares.
