Yep, but remember this was with the RD-1B gear drive. In 2004 Sun 100
I ran the -C drive and ran at 189.? Kts, same as Bobby
Hargrave.
These speeds really do not prove anything in the way of HP though.
Aircraft fit, trim & fairing detail make much more difference than raw
HP. Tracy Sailor's 180 HP RV-6 did not go 206 Kts on
horsepower. The many years of tweaking on the airframe did it. Dave
Anders 200 HP RV-4 now goes 260+ MPH : same story there.

Another point is Tracy Crook's max performance 13B (old and
new) will out run any stock 360 with breath to spare.
This is
not true. Take a look at the 2003 Sun100 Race
results:
There are a
number of O-360 powered RV's that beat Tracy. One I know very well is
5th place Bobby Hargrave. This is a stock RV-8, with an Aerosport
rebuilt O-360. Nothing was done to increase power from stock, aside from
a Lightspeed ignition. My old RV-8 was a couple mph faster than Bob's,
so it would have beat Tracy too. It was even handicapped by having a
brand new Lycoming :-0 As Lynn knows, it probably wasn't even putting
out 100 HP :-)
I understand Rusty has a 360 for sale, cheap {:>)
Not gonna
happen. The O-360 is the most rational choice for this plane, since I
want to be able to fly it, rather than fiddle with it. The single
rotor will provide all the fiddling amusement I
need.
