Gentlemen,
I have the opportunity to purchase a 4 port or a 6 port RX-8 engine. I thought I wanted a 4 port because I thought it would be easier to muffel. I just heard a "rumor" that the 4 port is junk and go with the 6 port. I need 220-230 hp using the 2.85 PSRU, no turbo. I would consider P-porting if absolutely necessary to get the HP. Obviously, I know very little about engines and want to start with the best I can get so, considering my needs which one do I want?
Thank you,
Randy

I'm not sure i've heard of folks P-Porting the Renesis/RX-8. It seems it would involve a LOT more work than simply P-porting an old style RX7 Engine.
P-Porting is peripheral porting, and on the RX 8 it would involve MUCH more work and redesign than would using an RX7 engine.
The RX-8 uses "side" ports on each rotor housing for intake AND exhaust, and has shallow, small apex seals because they dont have to flow over ports of any kind. The RX 7 engines have a "peripheral" exhaust port, and "side" intake ports. They also have these taller/deeper apex seals that are meant to skate/skip over the top of this large hole in its path.To do a P-port on either, you plug all the side ports, and make intake and exhaust through large ports in the periphery of the aluminum rotor housing.
In the RX 8, that just comes up to more work and expense to get what you could have by just starting with an RX 7 engine to begin with.
