I
expect to hear tales from Rusty stretching his wings today, either that or some
cussing about injectors, etc. :-(
Great
news about the inspection Todd. Congrats!
As for first
flight reports, I wouldn't expect to hear any today. I spent a
long day yesterday completing little items on my to-do list, and
whittled it down to only two remaining. One is a 30 minute job,
and the other (tuning the engine) "should" be a 15 minute job. My plan for
today, is to finish these items, and call it quits for the weekend. My
airport is under (900 ft) the class C airspace of Whiting Field, which is a
large Navy training facility. Fortunately, for us, they're shut down on
Sat, and most of Sun (until about 3 pm), so the Class C portion
goes away. The first flight will take place when Whiting is closed if
possible, so next Sat will be the target date. That gives me a week
to think of any remaining items I might have forgotten, and think through the
first flight some more.
As a side note,
one of the items I had to do yesterday was to bend my oil dipstick shorter, and
fashion a door in the top cowl to get to it. When I first fit the top
cowl, I just drilled a round hole so I could insert the dipstick. As it
turned out, the factory stick extended just above the cowl, and I gave some
thought to just leaving it like that. I finally decided that I had to make
this right, since my "buddy" Bob (webmaster for the local EAA chapter, who also
has a key to my hanger) would surely put a picture of my dipstick on the web
page. He's been bugging me to put the top cowl on, and I'm sure that was
his reason. I think he'll be disappointed :-)
I already know
that the new EC-2 chips work on the "factory 0" default settings, and
I'll start out today with the new default settings, which are Tracy's actual
engine parameters. Assuming all goes well, I'll verify the new tach at
high rpms, and see what my latest static RPM is, now that I set the prop to 15
degrees. I'm shooting for at least 5000 rpm static at 30
inches MAP. All running today will be done with the cowl
completely on, so I'll get to see how the temps behave. It's mighty hot,
so it should be a good test.
Cheers,
Rusty (Fat
lady not singing today)
