Hi Bill,
Get the ignition coils (both - usually mounted on firewall or fender) and the wiring harness that goes with them as well as the crank angle sensor. I use the electrical connectors. Mazda wants $500 for new ignition coils. I would get everything attached to the engine (manifolds, etc) as some parts are useable for aircraft. Since the oil cooler is gone you can't hear the engine run, so I would be hesitant to offer more than a couple hundred (if that much). If you could turn the engine over with a socket and long lever arm and hear six good "womps" as the apex seals go past the exhaust ports (exhaust pipe disconnect so you can hear), then I might pay $200. Its likely the eccentric shaft, water pump crank angle sensor and alternator are good. The oil pump may be Ok as well. So might be worth your $200 even if housings and/or rotor are junk. Oh, if its an automatic get the flexplate (flywheel), if a manual - you will need to find a flexplate from an automatic if you are planning on using one of Tracy Crooks redrives.

Subject: [FlyRotary] 13b out of '88 RX-7
I have an opportunity? to buy a 13b out of a wrecked 88 RX7. What should I
look for to be sure that the engine is rebuildable? (it is still in the car)
also, what out of the engine compartment should I be certain that I get in
the deal? The oil cooler is already gone. What should be a reasonable
price?
I hope I get some responses by Monday. Help!
