FWIW,  I recently noticed on Laura's BMW that there is a blast tube feeding a shroud at the air inlet side of the alternator.  Also noticed that at 130 mph it gets about 8 mpg while the RV-4 gets about 30 at the same speed, and that's down near sea level.  Pretty amazing efficiency

Now Tracy, I know this test at 130 mph must have been on a private road. Would not want to see the LAW removing your flying license just because you were running 60 to 70 mph over the legal limit :>)
