 Needless to say, it was somewhat embarrasing to report back to Tracy that after assuing him the hoses were attached, turns out they were not.  But, Problem solved.

Thanks Ed.  I'm not sure it makes me feel any better, but it was entertaining :-)
 
As I was running the engine full throttle, I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting any boost from the turbo.  Since the wastegate was wide open, I was starting to think it might just keep the boost at zero.  Next, I started very slowly closing the wastegate, which didn't produce a boost indication (because of the large leak in the hose) either.  The only thing it produced is the sound of air escaping.  I assumed that it was coming from the pop-off valve, but it sure sounded like it was coming from under the panel (thud, thud, thud).  Fortunately, I have my pop-off valve set for 1.5 psi initially, to protect the engine from this sort of stupidity :-)
