Finn, the guy who put it together used too much of the
blue sealant and bolted it before the sealant was set up. There was sealant on
the ears of the planetary gear, on the bolt heads of the planetary gear, and
stuffed in every opening imaginable including all around the sixteen studs. I
removed the studs.
Then I wedged the bell housing in a pallet and stood
the pallet between two trees. I hooked a nylon tiedown to the prop flange and
secured the other end to another tree. I ratcheted pressure on the flange and
tapped it with a hammer until the blue stuff finally gave up. I
wish I would have thought of this sooner!
At least now I know the drive is in good shape. I'm
hoping the pilot bearing is shot. If not that, there is something in the
engine.
