and my plane is a pig
if
you have your plane certified for a high weight then you won't get into legal
trouble for flying "over gross weight". I have not heard of anyone
getting busted for over gross weight ops in the private aviation field - but I
also never heard that a speeding ticket was droped because the driver was at a
"physically safe speed" above the posted limit. Remember, the government is
here to help you ;-) so protect yourself.

Actually, people
do indirectly get busted for flying over gross weight. It happens when you
are involved in an accident or landing incident or.....?
One of the first things the investigators
look at concerns the aircraft's weight. If it was over gross weight, chances
are your insurance company will fight the claim, as you were flying over
gross weight. That's why most LongEZ's bump their gross weight up. You
are the manufacturer, and you set the weight limitations. (Be reasonable of
course). Even if you don't have insurance, if you are over gross weight, of
course the investigators are going to call it pilot error, possibly exposing
you to lawsuits etc. Best to be flying legally in the event something
happens. That's what I was advised to do on my LongEZ and the DAR had no
problems with it. Just another opinion, for what it's worth.
Take care. Paul
