Well, if you really want to make me feel like the
"old man" of rotaries, we could go with "Edward L. Anderson" ,but since I'm
still young-at-heart, "Ed" will continue to do just fine {:>). I try to
avoid getting technical as I found when I was an officer in a Research and
Development organization that when you did, you simply lost most of your
audience. So I guess you could call this an attempt to "Popularize"
the rotary for aviation, that way I figure those who become interested will soon
find sufficient material to whet their craving for technical
knowledge.
I just finished several weeks finally working out
the Dynamic Supercharging Effect that Mazda used. Conceptually it was
simple, the devil was in the details and coming up with the equations that would
give you the right length of intake manifold for any selected rpm. Turns
out any change to the stock intake porting has a major effect on the lenght of
manifold required. So the next step is to fabricate a new (the 4th) intake
manifold to see if I can benefit for the knowledge.
Tracy Crook was moaning about having to answer all
the phone calls and questions after the article appeared. I told him not
to blame me, if he hadn't won the race and best auto engine, I probably would
not have had the material for a story that would have interested
KITPLANE.
I think that is the sixth article concerning rotary
aircraft I have had published, but KITPLANE was certainly the one with the
largest number of readers. I always look for an opportunity to put an
article into a flying magazine about the rotary. I have noticed that
recently more magazines seem interested in publishing articles on the rotary,
perhaps the world is waking up. Thanks to all you guys!
Best Regards
Ed

Edward L.
Anderson;
Can we call you that now? :-) Congrats on
your KitPlanes article. I just picked it up and was pleased to see it had an
article on rotaries, then was surprised to see your name on the byline. It was
very well written and informative enough to entice the casual
reader. It should attract more builders to the
"cause".
You are becoming our official spokesman. Good work!
