Peter,
I presume you have ruled
out any problem with the disengagement spring on the starter that pulls it
back from the fly wheel after the power is removed. .

Hello Ed.
You've probably seen my last note now
indicating that things work with the second solonoid. Sure looks like a short to
me but I don't see why it seems to occur only when the engine fails to start
quickly.
