I didn't know Paul face to face either.
I'm not a full-fledged member of this group because I haven't learned enough to start an engine project, But what little I know of EFI fuel systems comes mostly as the result of Paul's sharing of his tribulations with vapor lock (You remember the thread, and his first dead stick landing).
The added tragedy is the loss of an exceptionally admirable human being, and those are too rare not to leave a great vacuum.
Remember Peter Garisson's remark?
My heart goes out to the friends and family of a brave pioneer.

Dave, thanks for the address, I'd like to send a card too.

Wow, what devastating news. Like many of you I'd never met Paul in person,
but I admired his tenacity and looked forward to meeting him in person one
day. This really is sad news and I extend my deepest sympathies to his family
and friends including this list as we all were his friends.
I hope the FAA does allow input during the investigation from one of the
local list members (Tracy, Lynn or Rusty?) that has an understanding of the
aircraft rotary conversion, so as to hopefully find the truth, so that we may
all learn from this. I fear that they may just call it "failure of a modified
engine" and be done with it, which would just add to this tragedy.
Let's do our best to learn from this and fly safe. I hope to still meet
Paul some day, but not anytime soon my friends.
