Words well spoken, Bernie
It felt like a gut punch when I first read Carol's message. But, as you point out, we are not sitting at home in our rocking chair when we climb aboard our experimental rotary powered aircraft. Having had my share of "troubles", I can tell you calling someone on the ground-who can not help-is far down my priority list (actually not even on it). Paul was as cool a pilot as I have know and I am certain few could have coped any better with whatever Paul faced. Sometimes, the best of efforts is not enough and the good guy does not win. On the other hand, I have only to look at the FAA accident daily list to know that what happened is not unique to our small group. But, it always hits harder when its someone you know, respect and like.

Now that we are unplugged from Carol, I agree that it is way too early
to start speculating. Here was a guy who had gotten this thing back on
the ground unbent twice with the engine off. Let's hold our guessing
until we have something to base it on !
He was one guy, that I sincerely wanted to get to know better at
Charlie's after our time together at Tracy's a couple of years ago.
Remember when he talked about giving up on this project after the first
engine out landing. Then he was so optimistic recently about how great it
was going. You never know when fate will grab one of us and we are
experimenters for sure.
It made me sick on my stomach when I read Carol's note, but was planning
to fly this afternoon so I stapped in and had a great flight.
Let's all work harder to keep it safe, don't know how many like this I
can stand before giving in myself!
Bernie
