Good suggestion, Rusty
I had consider a Renesis in my future, but to be
honest I can do considerably better on the parts price. In any case, I
have a "Plugs Up" engine and from a quick look at the oil lubrication channels
particularly the oil return from the center housing, they have made some changes
there that means I would have to have some internal hole drilling to get the oil
to drain properly. Just more than I want to take on at the
moment.
I am going to see how good the clearances are on
the new rotors with my current set of side seals - no measurable wear on them as
they were brand new 150 hours ago, ditto for the corner
seals. Can even reuse the oil rings although I would
replace the oil control O rings as the are also 150 hours old and a well within
the specs.
So might get by with just the apex seal set $180
and "O" ring set and possibly a few other things such as e shaft oil seals, etc.
for less than $500 for the auxiliary stuff. We will see.
You just really wanted to make me squirm thinking
about the golden opportunity to get a Renesis - but, I have a plan - the first
one that gets rear ended in Charlotte area {:>)

Subject: [FlyRotary] Re: New rotors, New
housings
Well, the decision has
been made. Thanks in part to the wife's continued interest in my warm
body on cold winter nights, the decision has been made to purchase new
rotors and rotor housings. $$ but apparently I am worth it

Hi
Ed,
I agree
that new parts are a comfort, but let me mention something
(evil) that you've probably already thought about.
New rotor housings, and new rotors will likely run around 2400 total,
plus the $1000 for a master rebuild kit. That $3400 would go a long way
toward a new Renesis engine. Unfortunately, the mods
to install it couldn't be done at the remote
airport.
What are
the chances of borrowing an engine to fly home? How about Tracy's old
engine? That would be perfect! Heck, he might even sell you his
old engine (assuming he still has it).
Good
luck,
Rusty (John
doesn't seem to be using his engine
