Kelly.
I picked-up a second hand set of pulley, timing wheel and pick-up for $100 Aust - new cost was about $170 for Pulley/Timing wheel and $93 Aust for pick-up. Mine was off a Mazda demonstrator engine and didn't have much use.

The timing wheel is attached to the pulley by bolts through the pulley. I don't know why you have to buy them together! I will know more when I get them.
But the way to go, I believe

Tracy,
Can the RX-8 Crank sensor option be retrofit to existing EC-2's ?

Assuming you have no problems mounting the wheel & sensor in the same relative position they are on the RX-8 engine, it will work fine on any rotary (1,2, 0r 3 rotors).  You must order EC2 with the RX-8 crank sensor option for this to work of course.

Tracy,
Can the RX8 timing wheel and sensor be used on the RX7 and can I use it on the single without causing other problems - using your EMS.
