I also asked about removing the plugs, and putting in a fitting for redrive
oil feed.  He said the hole is too large for 1/8 NPT, and the castings are
usually too thin to comfortably drill for a 1/4 NPT, so he taps them for
7/16" set screws, and epoxies them in place.  He does NOT recommend trying
to remove one of these screws.  He said you'd basically have to drill it
out, and any shavings that fell inside would go straight to the rear
bearing.

The rear bearing is removable without disassembling the engine by removing the flywheel and counterweight.  (Easier said than done!) Just in case you decide to go ahead and drill for oil.
