Hi All,

What do you think about musical intruments? Are they all straight like an organ pipe? The trombone has at least one 180 degree bend. You change the frequency by changing the length of the pipe. How about the tuba?
Comparison with musical instruments is only marginally useful - with an engine we are trying to obtain the maximum strength of the pulse. With musical instruments we are using the circuitous path to mould the sound. Consider the tuba and its sibling the Sousaphone (John Sousa designed it as a "tuba" that could be easily carried in a marching band.) Despite having comparable tube lenths, they do sound _different_. Same-same straight and traditional saxophones.
