Greetings,
Well, I've had a busy day,
but the engine is sitting in my garage now. Just from looking in the
exhaust port, I can already see that the major malfunction is behind
door (rotor) #2. There's about 3 ounces of oil in the bottom of the
rotor housing, and the exhaust pipe is similarly coated in oil. Rotor #1
seems dry, but I doubt it remained unscathed. I plan to tear the
engine down tomorrow, and will post the
results.
My current plan is to send
the rotors to Bruce, to let him get them ceramic coated. I'll
probably also send him the stationary gears so he can press in
new bearings all around. I anticipate needing to have my side
housings replaced, or machined and re-nitrided.
Has anyone got any
particular recommendations for a shop to do the work on the side
housings? New housings are about
$350-$400. Would the machining and re-nitriding cost significantly
less? If so, that may be the way to go, since the porting is already
done.
I'll know more
tomorrow.
Cheers,
Rusty (it's steak and beer
time again)
