Greetings,
My hanger lease requires that I have a liability insurance
policy that covers at least $300k in property damage. For the past year,
I’ve had a builders policy for the RV-3B from Avemco, but that runs out
in June. Since I expect to be flying by the end of June, I asked Avemco
about a normal liability policy, and they said can only offer me 100K/100K/1M
coverage for my plane. This won’t do, so Avemco is out.
They suggested that I could call Falcon, since I guess they
took over the EAA program last year. I also recall that SkySmith is a
pretty reasonable outfit when it comes to homebuilts. I’ll
call both of these tomorrow, to see what they can offer for the RV-3B.
Are there any other companies I should call? Anyone had any particularly
good experience in regard to companies accepting rotary engine aircraft?
FWIW, I really have two problems when it comes to
insurance. One is the usual auto engine problem, and the other is the
RV-3 wing stigma. I have the new wings, and my plane is registered as RV-3B,
so I hope I can avoid some of that. I really only need $300k
liability, but it would be nice to find a company that would offer full
coverage if I ever wanted it.
All comments appreciated. Thanks.
