Tracy and rotary enthusiasts, Ron Gowan's post about the lube system in
the Marcotte re-drive brings up my major concern with the planetary
reduction re-drive. Is anyone doing a remote reservoir and lube system
for this type? I'd like to optimize the lubricants for each system and
not have a common oil supply for the engine and redrive.
The problem is that you still have to cool the gearbox. Take a 150 Kw engine
and a very optimistic 2% loss in the box, that gives heat to be dissipated
of 3Kw. Imagine three 1Kw electric bar heaters in your workshop on a hot
day!
