The attached picture may be of interest to the
group. I did an early 200 hourly as a DI showed problems with the vacuum pump
bracket.
As you can see the NGK B9EV & B10EV spark
plugs did not have much life left, one B10 and one B9 having no center
electrode. She still ran as smooth as ever. The trailing plugs were changed to
B10 (cooler) at 100 hrs, at which time they all looked like new. A check at 150
hrs showed all well. Then I started using Avgas with a few fills of unleaded
mixed in.
It would appear that Avgas is hard on
plugs!
I have now fitted B9EVX (leading) and B10EVX
(trailing) These are platinum plugs. EV's are gold iridium. The platinum plugs
have a cone shaped center electrode as against the gold iridium's thin
wire.
