Sounds like you've proved your suggestion in service. Most of the time
that's the "acid test". Sounds like a good idea for specific applications.
I did not mean to say your idea was flawed, merely to use caution. I can't
tell you the number of times I've seen engine compartments of certificated
aircraft presumably maintained by certificated mechanics with polyethylene
spiral cable wrap (good to about 215F) used on wire bundles that has melted
in service. The solution in this case is high temperature teflon material
which is good to 500F.
