I can't tell you the number of times I've seen engine compartments of certificated aircraft presumably maintained by certificated mechanics with polyethylene spiral cable wrap (good to about 215F) used on wire bundles that has melted in service. The solution in this case is high temperature teflon material which is good to 500F.
