In addition to the higher real estate costs up there they have to deal with higher labor costs... as you know, the closer we get to the Mexico border (and you are pretty close) the easier it gets to find cheap labor. I'm sure your local shop does great work, and the $28/hr cost you quote is amazing... you must be in heaven. However I would argue that AirCrafters is cheap also considering where they are and the staff they have. The last time I was up there I met two of their mechanics who were (as I remember the story) a few of the key personnel that set up Lancair's manufacturing facility and they know the Lancair inside and out. That kind of experience in the Silicon Valley is cheap at $50/hr.
