Ed,
Thanks for the real data. This helps a great deal. You wrote:

When I installed the new pump, the lo pressure bleed also stopped, but the hi pressure (gear up) continues to bleed down to a lower pressure quickly. Since you have pressure gauges attached, have you, or can you test your retracted gear on jacks such that you could record the pressure after, say 1/2 hour intervals. I am in denial that a new pump could still have ridiculous quality control problems so that valves are installed backwards only to be fixed by pulling the pump and sending it in the repair department so they can resolve the stated problem and change the behavior of the pump on the other side. BTW, Mercury marine uses these pumps for boat hydraulic autopilots and they are available for only $399.

Some have suggested that an MOV or diode on the relay coil would fix this problem -- not so, these are used to eliminate the spike caused by the field collapse when the relay is released, not the sloppy pressure switch contacts arcing as they make -- it is a 3rd generation switch problem. My second generation switch was very touchy and required frequent adjustment -- Last Spetember, I had to settle for 3rd in my class (by 1 second) at the Redmond 100 because, when cold, the switch wouldn't shut the pump off so I had to pull the breaker and then remember to regularly reset it -- sometimes reminded by the rush of cold air -- probably losing speed by door sag drag.
Misery loves company, but it is unfortunate that others have these problems also. I will not allow this maintenance nightmare occur in the Legacy. I am now also looking for alternate pumps. I would appreciate the information about the pressure gauges you have used.
I am only 1.5 hours from Rochester, MI -- Love to come and visit. What airport are you at? Call me anytime - my cell phone at the institution incarceration location is 630-561-0400.
