I have personally put in over 2,500 hours and my hired help about 3,300. The engine is not mounted, the door is almost finished in place, and the panel is away at a shop being populated. I will need about 1,000 more hours before flying. Just for clarity, I am building the Eagle 540 variant, so extra time is involved there. Mine was the first fast build variant, with wing and stab ribs and spars installed. If you have the chance, buy every fast build option available. To have wings and tail closed with stab installed within two weeks of start is phenomenal. It took me 400 hours to get the get the stab and elevator closed. The tasks you can avoid with the FB options are: Building flaps and ailerons (and the pain of installing them in the old system) Setting wing incidence, sweep and dihedral (spar box pre-installed, a huge benefit) Building the door ($6,800 is cheap. I have at least twice that in labor at $15 per hour, and I had to have a shop make special latch pins at $800 to make up for dimensional problems.) Building a plane is an exercise in engineering problem solving. I am ready for an erector set airplane and I'm not flying yet. The fewer problems you have to solve, the better off you are. There are fewer mistakes available to you and the job goes faster.
