Rob,
Many aircraft owners are having to replace aluminum hinges at 500 hours
because that black junk you wipe off is part of the hinge. They are wearing
out. It’s not just a cosmetic problem.
There is no abrasion with the Carbinge unless you have parts under the cowl
that rub against the hinge (and you shouldn’t). The Carbinge has a nylon
bearing and has been tested to 1.5 million cycles with NO measurable wear.
