It’s not just a cosmetic problem. There is no abrasion with the Carbinge unless you have parts under the cowl that rub against the hinge (and you shouldn’t). The Carbinge has a nylon bearing and has been tested to 1.5 million cycles with NO measurable wear. Take a look at the data on the web site for more data. Regards.
