Continental has had a liquid cooled version of the 550 called the TSIOL-550 or simply the "voyager" engine because it was originally developed for the voyager round the world flight. It been used for years by RAM aircraft corporation as an STC'd upgrade available for Cessna 414's to replace the TSIO-520's. The recently announced Extra 400 has it as standard. The Extra 400 is the first serious competition to the Malibu Mirage in the cabin class pressurized single market. Check out the Extra 400 out at: http://www.aerosport.com/extra/extra400.html Has anyone used it in a IV-P? It apparently is very similar dimensionally to the air-cooled TSIO-550E engine. It eliminates shock cooling and shock heating problems and its internal tolerances, at least in the cylinders, are tighter since temperatures are much better controlled. It supposedly runs cooler at altitude also. People who've used it for years in Cessna 414's rave about it.
