That's true, Bob. But my avionics (Sierra Flight Systems EFIS) allow for the
presentation of wind direction and velocity. I merely fly into the wind, and
then downwind, eliminating the need for three legs. BTW, its better to do
this test in calm conditions, and at 2,500' AGL.
My results tend to confirm what I see on my screen in flight, so will rely on
the EFIS in the future.
I input a lot of PIREPS to Seattle Flight Watch on 135.92 on my flights in
and out of the Puget Sound. Wind direction and velocity, corrected OAT, and
flight conditions are the main items on my PIREPS.
This Sierra system is really fantastic.!!
