Excluding some design limitations, it is amazing= that none of the performance numbers are based on a single IAS. A good case in point is the bottom of the green and white radials on the IAS. They tell you your stalling speed in a very specific set of circumstances. You must be in 1 "G" flight, at maximum gross weight, and= at a known CG. Any maneuvering such as turns, pull-ups, slips, skids or = CG or GW changes makes the bottom of the green and white radial useless and misleading. Generally, the only valid use of IAS is for limitations such as maneuveri= ng speed, gear extend speed, maximum operating, flap extend, etc. AOA is us= ed for approaches and landing, Vx, stall warning, best engine out glide, maximum endurance, wing contaminant detection, and other performance related parameters. Use AOA for performance, use IAS for limitations, and use GPS for plannin= g and following. Serious cross country aircraft should be set up with all three.
