Hey guys,
Try this idea out.
There is a problem with the aft spar on the ES being true? or other similar
problems. In any case you cannot get a true alignment with respect to the
skins and the hinge line is off center from the TE of the Stab? You are
trying to fit a straight edge elevator to a misalligned aft H-Stab surface?
Try this idea. Get a steel rod the same diameter as the hinge bearings,
install the stab hinge brackets to the rod. Attach the steel rod to the
edge of the board at several points to assure the alignment is straight,
make a jig or rig this assembly to the aft edge of the H-Stab, then build
your flox & glass pads. measure from the rod to the H stab skins or
whatever it takes. This procedure allows you to artfully work the placement
of the hinge bases on the H-Stab aft spar. This will allow you to see what
you are doing and have a working clearance to make corrections.
