Besides my LNC2, I also have a C340A and typically cruse at 22k to 25k at 220 kts TAS (160 kts to 170 kts IAS). ATC almost always knows where a piston planes needs to start down. If they don't, I let them know. I descend at 1,000 ft/min and at between 200 kts and 220 kts IAS. This IAS gives me TASs of up to 260 kts. I never retard the throttle until I am slowing down to prepare for landing. My temperature differentials don't change by more that 20 to 30 degrees per minute(up to 60 is allowed). What is the problem with this? I have a lot harder time slowing down this 6,500 lb monster than my LNC2. So I ask again, why do we need speed brakes? Planning ahead may solve the problem.
