In my 235/320 I have built a carb air intake patterned after the Van Kit. Van's testing of their unit indicated little or no loss of MP with their unit. But, I made mine out of aluminum, to lessen induction fire potential of the Lancair Unit. It has carb heat, alternate air, and a KN Air Filter. It took slicing the lower cowl horizontally and adding 5/8 of an inch to the depth. All engine air goes through the Filter, at annual, washing it shows a considerble dirt and I don't operate off grass or dirt Rwys. Because of the increased air, dropping the air "scoop", increased the exit area, and among other mods, decreased engine and oil temps. Cruise penalty, perhaps, but I won the Redmond Races for four years in the 235 Mod Class. Induction fires are something to consider, especialy in the colder climates, where a tad of over prime could ruin your whole day. One of the mods an IA mentor suggested, a bunch of work for me, but a bunch of peace of mind...Regards to all.. Don Skeele N320J (503) 769-2563
