Tony,
After reading my last message to you I realize what I said was not what I
meant so sorry for the confusion. Let me try this again, first by assuring
you that I know the relationship between fuel mixture and power. Peak power
usually occurs somewhere around 100 deg rich of peak egt and anything less
than that normally produces less power. All of this varies somewhat
depending on the type of powerplant, the fuels used, and load. Running lean
of peak (to a limit) allows for lower fuel burn though less power. However,
I have concerns about lubrication, the resulting heat, and longevity of the
engine when consistently running at LOP, time will tell.
What I meant in my email was that since your change to GAMI injectors and
Marvel you are probably making more horsepower across the board than a
standard TSIO-550, including the LOP setting that you referenced in your
email. Based on the results of several engine modifiers the TSIO-550 is
capable of around 400 HP at the standard RPM and MP settings once fuel
delivery, valve timing, etc... has been optimized. Is there any possibility
of you reinstalling your standard tips and reflying some conditions so we
could do a back to back comparison. The same airframe with the same
powerplant at the same flight conditions would be a valuable tool for
comparison purposes.
