I would like to respond to a message that I received 5/4/01, subject LOP
from Jeffery Peterson regarding modifications on his Lancair 360 A1A engine.
Dear Jeffery,
After assist building 8 L 360's I've come to know this product fairly well.
There is a system that is made for this engine that is put together by Sky
Dynamics. The induction system and the sub are separated. They have dyno
tested it and have found a gain of 19 HP. I've tried to fit tuned exhaust
system four into one, and have been unsuccessful. There is physically not
enough room in the cowling to make a nice installation. I've now gone to 4
separate pipes, equal lengths, then applied ceramic coating to help
scavenging of the engine and reduce heat under the cowling. In the midst of
the installation process I have created a cowling mold to fit the engine.
Another thing that can be done to the engine to gain HP, is to flow balance
the cylinders. I've been able to get a 180 HP engine to produce 203 HP and
the engine is smooth. On a 200 HP engine I've been able to get 219 HP. I
have created a cowling mold to support this engine package that includes no
induction scoop under the cowling. Presently I have two molds available.
One for the 180 HP and the other for the 200 HP angle valve. To take a look
at these simply visit www.barnstormers.com select experimental, then
Lancair. If this is of interest to you, please contact me.
