When I was an 18-year-old with my new pilot's license and an issue of Popular
Mechanics in my hand, I met an old geezer who had just finished his first
airplane. I mean, the guy must have been 40 years old! I told myself that
there was no way I would be in my forties and just finishing my first
homebuilt.
I might have been right. Now that I'm 44, I'm PRAYING that I'll still be in
my forties when I finish my first airplane....
Aaron, welcome to the old guys hobby of building airplanes. Seems most of us
start when our kids are grown and we start to have some time on our hands.
You're the smarter one here, starting your airplane BEFORE the
responsibilities of family and career get in the way. You are indeed
fortunate to have this opportunity.
I look forward to seeing your airplane at the airshows soon.
