I have commissioned the installation of this material which is pricey but has worked very well so far. The product is called Aero Gold and is the same material used by NASA in their spy satilites and Apollo glare sheilds. It uses real gold embedded in a film which is attached to the windows like car tint would be. This cost is high ($150 per foot) for just the material and due to the complex curves of the windows the front of a IV-P must be done in three sections. The resulting seam is not objectionable however as its less than a hairline. Initial tests show a 25 to 30 degree lower cockpit temp as a result of the film which according to the factory eliminates 100% of the UV and 50% of heat transmission. In flite the need for sun visors is almost eliminated and very pleasent. The film is FAA approved and is great at night as well . I am still tweaking the install and will report a final verdict and provide pictures. It is expensive to have the process done but the expertise is probably worth it since they are having to re-do my front window for allignment. Total cost installed is $2400.00 Lower UV transmission, lower heat and rolling up to the ramp looking like Neil Armstrong make the effort worthwhile so far!
