I have two comments that I would enter for our readers consideration. First, John Deakin's article "Those Fire Breathing Dragon's" used GAMI data and charts that were based on an 0-470 nonturbo engine. George, in his comments to the List referenced a TIO-540 (Lycoming). I maintain that while the comparison is not oranges and apples, it IS green cooking apples, to Golden Delicious apples. I maintain that George's statement that-- given the conditions of 100 degrees ROP, 100 L. L., hottest CHT 420F, "will run one or two cylinders continuously in light detonation, as measured by the FAA's current detonation criteria" --IS NOT necessarily applicable to the TSIO 550. Even individual model numbers (B vs E) engines or early cylinders vs late model cylinders may skew the data. And even engine to engine configuration (intake turbulence due to pipe misalignment etc. etc.) would negate the comparison. Secondly, no reference is made in any of the comments as to longevity and life expectancy of cylinders operated at LOP. I doubt that operation LOP (without additive insertion (MMO)) will ever equal (hours) at ROP due to the aforementioned lack of upper cylinder lubrication. Here again, data collection needs to be from like make- model. Even George requires data from YOUR engine prior to selling you GAMI injectors.
